LIFE DRAWING / PORTRAIT PAINTING COURSE

This life drawing and portrait painting art course is aimed at students wishing to focus on the exploration of the human figure. The course tutors will show students how different body features relate to one another, and will hence instruct them on how to represent anatomy, musculature and different poses effectively.

The art teachers will also introduce students to drawing techniques which will ensure the proper representation of each anatomical part from hands, feet, legs and arms to facial features such as eyes, nose, lips, and ears. The use of study skeletons and cast objects will aid the students with the manipulation of tones, textures and volume for fine academic representations of the body.

The presence of life models will enable students to develop their ability to handle light and shade, to represent different body types and to draw musculature in motion.

How to study art classes regularly?

In addition, after you finish a package, you can choose to continue your learning with our exceptional team through rebooking or choosing a new personalized package. Many of our alumni students choose to master a particular medium/s, develop a genre or wish to try something new.

How are the live online courses structured?

You will receive structured lessons with reference images, concept and technique documents, short demonstration videos, plus live demos from your tutor and critiques.

Live Demonstration

Demonstration with traditional drawing/painting medium techniques: Our tutor will set up the camera to live record the demonstration during the art lesson.

Demonstration with Photoshop :

  1. Screenshot student's work in progress
  2. The tutor will screen share their computer screen live with students
  3. Correct students' work live with Photoshop; this software provides an assortment of traditional drawing and painting brush effects, allowing tutors to paint/draw digitally with academic drawing /painting techniques.

Screen Share : Allows our tutors to share their computer screen with remote students during live sessions for explanations and critiques

Suitability

Please note that there are some preliminary foundational skills and knowledge with regular drawing and painting that you will need before successfully approaching the human body.

Hence why we recommend that beginnerssign up for a Beginner's Drawing or Painting course before approaching this course on human anatomy.

This will ensure that you will have all the foundational skills necessary to enjoy this course.

What You Will Achieve Upon Completion of the Course

Students will explore the beauty of the human figure, develop good observation skills, perfect the techniques for portraiture, and learn how to express their inner artist. You will become highly proficient in drawing/painting the human figure with various mediums and in recording different poses in a relatively short time. In particular, you will understand how to portray anatomy accurately, to develop your use of light and tone, and to construct a space through the use of settings and backgrounds. By the end of the course, you will have produced several high-quality drawings/paintings to add to your art collection!

When you purchase a course package (e.g. a 60 art lessons course), it will be transferred to your online account. You will be able to log-in and use your course package to book any available art class (see timetable section below).We have art classes every day, and you can book them at any time.Because you can book the time slots that are most suitable for you, you can also choose your starting date as well.

Flexible Credit System to Save You Money
One lesson will be taken from your package only when you book a class. Therefore, you don't have to book and use all the lessons immediately, but you can book them as you progress with the art course. The system is just like an oyster card that you use as you go.

Our Tutors Will Update Your Progress on Your Account After Each Lesson
After each art lesson, our tutor will leave internal feedback for other tutors to see. This information briefs art tutors from different time slots on your progress, including what you did in the previous art lessons and what you should do in the upcoming ones. Therefore, even if you leave for a holiday break, when you will be back, all your progress history will be saved there for our tutors to use to resume your art lessons.

You can easily cancel, reschedule and book your art lessons all from your online account. Please note that we have a48H cancellation and reschedule policy. We recommend booking art classes at least 2 days or earlier to guarantee enough availability of seats and to give you enough time if you need to reschedule/cancel the session.

How Do the Art Lessons Work?

How do on-site lessons work?

  • Each course follows a step-by-step structure to cover the necessary concepts and techniques according to your chosen package
  • For each lesson, your workspace will be set-up for your arrival, and the tutor will have your specific subject prepared for the lesson
  • You will receive group or individual demonstrations plus one-to-one expert guidance during the lessons. At the end of each class, your progress is recorded.

How do the live online art lessons work?

  • The live online art lessons follow the same step-by-step structure as the on-site classes. You can attend the lesson on your phone, tablet or desktop. All you need will be the link, meeting ID and password you will receive in your booking confirmation.
  • We teach the fundamental principles and techniques using real objects you find in your house or guidance material that the tutors will give you.
  • For personal demos and guidance, the lesson will be divided into two virtual rooms so that you can have individual tuition during a demo without disturbing the other practising students
  • We recommend using your mobile with a flexible arm so that you can point the camera directly at your canvas/sketchbook while practising. An adjustable arm will allow you to turn the camera and screen so that you can see the tutors' demo when they need to show you how a technique is executed. Our art materials packs include a flexible phone arm for you.
